보어나 동사가 문두로 도치되는 경우가 있는데, 양보절에서 자주 이런 형식이 쓰입니다. 구어체에서는 잘 안 쓰이는 문어체이지만, 시험에는 가끔 나옵니다.

보어의 도치

• Poor as/thogh he is, he is contended.
  =Though he is poor, ~.
  =However poor he is, ~.
  =No matter how poor he is, ~.
• Poor man as/thouhg he is, he has paid the costs.
  =Though he is a poor man, ~.
  =However a poor man he is, ~.
  =No matter how a poor man he is, ~.※ 보어가 문두로 도치될 때 부정관사(a/an)를 생략함에 주의.

동사의 도치

• Come when he may, he will be welcomed.
  =Whenever he may come, ~.
  =No matter when he may come, ~.
• Try as he may, he will fail.
  =Though he may try, ~.
  =However hard he may try, ~.
  =Now matter how he may try, ~.※ 동사가 도치 될 때 주의 할 점: 자동사가 도치되면 “자동사 as ~”, 타동사가 도치되면 “타동사+목적어 how ~”
• Hate him how you may, you will be end up with supproting him.
  =Though you may hate him, ~.
  =However much you may hate him, ~.
  =No matter how you may hate him, ~.
• Be it true or not, it is worth considering.
  =Whether it is true or not, ~.
• Be it ever so humble, there is no place like home.
  =However humble it may be, ~.
